AYRSHIRE PHILATELIC SOCIETY

CLUB COMPETITIONS

For those interested in "competitive philately", the Society has a number of competitions, geared towards both the new and experienced philatelist. As its name implies the "Three Sheet" competition only requires the preparation of three sheets, which can be on any subject, theme, or country. It is judged by members on the night, and is an ideal opportunity for the less experienced collector to gain experience of what is required before they tackle the Society's main competitions.

The President's Cup is the premier trophy, and is for postal history. For thematic collectors there is the W.I. Finnie Shield, and for those who like to collect modern material, either stamps or other philatelic material, there is the 20th Century Cup. All of the above require 8 sheets, and are judged externally on Competition Night, which is usually held late in the season.

In order to encourage participation in competitions, there is provision for the Society to award the Members Cup to anyone entering, but who has not won any of the Society's three main competitions. The entry must reach a reasonable standard. This is seen as a way to encourage further participation in the club's competitions.

The rules of the various competitions can be obtained from the Secretary.
