AYRSHIRE PHILATELIC SOCIETY

BUYING AND SELLING STAMPS THROUGH THE SOCIETY

THE EXCHANGE PACKET

Members with surplus material can dispose of this through the Society's Exchange Packet. A maximum of 16 boxes, which can contain up to 25 books, are circulated to around 60 members. Members are required to purchase a rubber stamp to identify their purchases. They are expected to pass the box on to the next person on the list within a couple of days, and thereafter send their packet slips/remittances directly to the person circulating the box. The only charges made to vendors are commission and insurance.

The " Packet" is acknowledged as one of the best in Scotland, with percentage sales amongst the highest within Scottish societies. This suits both vendors and members, who can buy good quality material at reasonable prices in the comfort of their own homes. Members can submit either enough material for a box of their own, or can share a box with others. Material from non members is accepted, provided it is of a reasonable standard, and if there is spare capacity. The Society reserves the right to decline any material offered to it.

This service is only available to members of the society, and an application form to join the packet is available from the Secretary. References are required for new members.

AUCTIONS

The Society normally runs an auction every year, which is eagerly anticipated by members, and there is always a good attendance. The auction consists of between 130 - 150 lots with a minimum value of 50p. Bidding is keen, particularly for the "glory boxes" and mixed lots, which can contain anything! The Society charges 10% commission, and there are no other charges. The Auction is an enjoyable way to dispose of unwanted material, and equally an opportunity to snap up a real bargain!
