Stewart "Ginger" Barr (RAF Redbrae, 1955 – 1958) writes
I am interested in anyone who wants to contact me, and knows about any of the RAF bods who were stationed at Redbrae Prestwick during the above dates.I have not been able to return to Prestwick since I left.
Even any photos of any bits of Prestwick with RAF bods on them.
In fact anything at all that refers to The RAF
I am currently in touch with two old pals( from New Zealand and Edinburgh) from then and both would be interested in the same as me.

Jamie Mcpherson If anyone knows the whereabouts of Jamie Mcpherson please contact JohnDunoon@aol.com. He has a young brother called Ryan and he is 21/22 years old. His dad works in a pub and drives taxis too.
Tom Balfour - Military Police ( 629 squad 1957).
Barrie Woodward is trying to contact Tom Balfour last known living in Ayr or Kilmarnock but whose present address is unknown.
Tom and Barrie were in the Royal Military Police at Inkerman Barracks in Woking (629 squad) in 1957.
One of their old friends, David Griffith's, was in touch will Tom for many years after leaving the Army but has now lost contact. David is now very ill and would dearly like to make contact with Tom.
Also another one of their fellow RMP's, Bob Carmichael (ex 445 squad), would also like to make contact as it is Bob's Golden wedding next year and Tom was his Best man (celebrations !!! I think ).
The guys are already in contact with two more of their ex army pals
- Ian Brodie of Aberdeen - Barrie escorted David up to see Ian 6 weeks ago where they had two good day's reminiscing about army days.
- Cyril Watkins ( ex 629 squad ) – very recently (19/8/07) made contact which gave David a tremendous boost,

Janey ?, Counter Clerk in Sandgate Post Office around 1944/5. Billy Irving writes:
"Circa 1944/45 I was very fond of Janey (Surname ?). She was an employee (counter clerk) in the Post Office in Sandgate, Ayr. Then she would have been around 18 years of age, small, pretty and highly intelligent. Janey's home, which I visited, was in Maybole. According to a friend of mine (new deceased), her father was a deaf mute, his occupation Mole Catcher.
I was a telephone engineer at the old telephone exchange behind the Post Office, my name Billy Irving. If the details of Janey strike a chord with anyone, a friend, relative, descendant or an amateur historian – please get in touch and let me know what happened to her, was she subsequently happy and fulfilled ?"

Joyce Cowan, was born in Dundonald. Son Gary writes:
My mother (Joyce Cowan) was born on October 9, 1935 and grew up in Dundonald. Her mother's name was Mary and her father was William. My mother had two sisters, Molly and Evelyn. Evelyn is now deceased. My mother moved to the United States in 1954 and eventually married my dad, Anthony DePreta. She and my father settled in Stamford, Connecticut and had five children (Bonnie - born 1957; Tony - born 1958; Mark - born 1961; Gary - born 1966; Glen - born 1969). My parents are both still living and have retired to Sarasota, Florida. My mother has told all of us children many, many stories of growing up in Dundonald ("...two bustops, a church, and Marr College"). She went to high school in Troon and tells us many stories of growing up during WWII. We hope to return to my mother's childhood home sometime soon. Perhaps you could find the time to post my mother's information on your homepage to see if their still are childhood friends that would like to reacquaint with my mom.

David George, was born in Prestwick and would like to meet up with old friends when he returns for a visit. He writes:
I was raised in Prestwick from 1948 to 1960 when I came to America. I went to Glenburn school and then Prestwick High. I lived at 24 Alvord Ave, next to Aggie Mc Gonigal. I was in the Lifeboys and then the BB's I served an apprenticeship under Harry Wood the painter on Main St. If anybody remembers me and would like to contact me that would be just great. I have been back a couple of times. Not near often enough. The last time was about 3 years ago when my Mother passed away. I plan on coming back within in the next year. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

David Barnes writes from Canada
I am a Canadian, living in Ottawa, and I would like to expand my genealogical data on a maternal ancestor, Thomas Anderson (1804-1879), his wife Mary Young, and their descendants.
Thomas was born in Arbroath, moved first to Ayr where they had two children, Elizabeth (b.1831) and Thomas II (b.1833), then on to Girvan where they had at least four more. Their youngest son, William (b.1846), studied medicine at Glasgow and emigrated to Newfoundland.
I will be visiting Ayr and Girvan in August 2005, and I would love to meet any descendants of Thomas and Mary.

I am researching my family tree, and am looking for information to the whereabouts of a Margaret Carson (Rona Murchison - middle names). She was born in 1951 and the last known address I have for her is 181 Prestwick Road, Ayr. Her parents were Joseph and Rona.
I have drawn a blank and wonder if she may have moved abroad?
Any information greatly received, also if you don't know her, but you know some that does, again I would be grateful for any snippet of information.

Douglas Carrel is looking for information on Ayr hotels and hoteliers almost a hundred years ago. He writes
I am looking for information on the McMeekings who owned the Wellington Hotel on Wellington Square, as well as the Milrig Hotel (Charlotte Street) and the Cowans (or Gowans) Hotel. The latter was also in Ayr, but I'm afraid I don't know which street. My great grandmother, Janet McMeeking (nee Turner) continued to run the hotels after her husband, Alexander, had died. Date-wise, this would all have been around the early 1900s. If anyone has any info on this family, or on the hotels as they were back then, I'd be delighted to hear from them.

"I would be grateful if you could help me contact some of my Scottish relatives My father was William Anderson, son of William and Mary Jane(nee Lewis) who lived in Barmill. He was born on 17th February 1870 at Wardsop Street, Beith, and had several brothers and one sister.
He served an apprenticeship in Carpentry in Beith. Later he attended a Bible Training Institute in Glasgow and in 1898 went as a missionary to the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) in the South Pacific where he married Katherine Lauriston Milne.
Since my father's death in 1953 and my mothers in 1963 there has been no contact with the family in Scotland
I am Keith Lewis Anderson, born in the New Hebrides(now Vanuatu) on the 26th April 1913 and now living at 71b Cameron Street, Ashburton, New Zealand.
It is possible that I will be visiting Scotland in May 2002 consequently I would be delighted if I could contact any of my cousins prior to that date."

George Masson, from Ayrshire, enlisted in the Royal Air Force as a Boy Entrant during 1953. Trained in electronics at R.A.F. Cosford he will now be 64 years of age. A re-union of the 20th Radar class is organised and he will be a welcome addition.
